Session Focuses on Talent Acquisition and Activation for HR and Procurement Professionals; Highlights Preliminary Findings of New Research on Freelance Workforce

LOS ANGELES – March 1, 2016 Field Nation, the leading marketplace platform for contingent and on-demand workforce management, today announced that it will present on the reinvention of human resources (HR) and procurement processes in the new gig economy and the role of freelancing in the pivot for business growth at the Future of Learning and Working conference in Los Angeles.

Billy Cripe, chief marketing officer at Field Nation, will present the session title: “The Rise of the Free Agent Workforce: A Moderated Discussion on What You Need to Know and How You Can Best Prepare for the Changes in the Future Workforce.” Cripe will outline the implications and strategies organizations need to deploy as they prepare for a new future of work, one that incorporates the 34% of freelancers who make up today’s workforce.

“The explosion of the freelance economy has forced HR and procurement professionals to change the way they think about their workforce,” said Cripe. “Freelancing is a strategic element of business that drives organizational growth. Online talent platforms will contribute to an increase of $2.7 trillion in global GDP by 2025, and improve job outcomes for 540 million people. It is time for organizations to maximize productivity, innovation, and well-being by using technology and mobility systems to tap into the expertise and quality offered by freelancers.”

Cripe will present to chief HR and procurement officers on Wednesday, March 2, at 9:45 a.m. PT, highlighting preliminary findings from new research conducted by Field Nation on the role of freelancers in the new gig economy and the enterprise pivot to the blended workforce. The study was conducted during a 30-day period at the beginning of 2016 and captured insights from 959 freelancers and 600 enterprise HR and procurement professionals. The preliminary results indicate that organizations which have incorporated freelance expertise into their strategic, rather than operational, plans outperform those that do not; however, a large percentage of organizations are unable to find the right freelance talent and more importantly, lack visibility into their process management.

“While outperforming organizations have begun to incorporate freelance expertise into their strategic growth plans, the issues impacting HR and procurement professionals are a lack of visibility into and accountability of the selection, onboarding, deployment, and engagement processes of freelancers,” said Cripe. “Freelancer Management Systems (FMS) like Field Nation are powering the pivot to the blended workforce. These platforms provide organizations and talent leaders with the tools and insight needed to successfully scale operations to demand and puts control of the procurement process back in their hands.”

The Future of Learning and Working conference is being held March 1-2, 2016, at the Microsoft Technology Center. Co-hosted by Future Workplace leaders Kevin Mulcahy, strategic training consultant, and Dan Schawbel, partner and research director, the conference offers a series of sessions and seminars on how leaders can activate their workforce using best practices and current thinking, and how professionals plan to reinvent the role of HR in 2016 at their companies. Featured speakers include Andrew Gill, global managing partner at IBM, Gianpaolo Barozzi, senior director of HR at Cisco, and Thomas Hsu, executive global social collaboration at Accenture.
