Director’s Corner June 2014

Greetings Professional Providers,

There are only a few days until the 4th of July and I cannot believe the way the time flies by anymore – the younger I get, the faster it goes! You know, speaking of my age, I know there are many of you out there who have become mentors to some of the recent sign-ups here on Field Nation. Bravo! I applaud all for these genuinely noble efforts. This makes me think back to a previous blog post from March of this year about spreading the wealth of knowledge.

Remember that post? I want to remind everyone how very important it is that we have the more experienced, seasoned providers guide and assist the newer providers whenever possible. I do not monitor our groups, but many times a provider will give me a heads up to what is being said here or there. Whether it be the IT Field Engineer Group, IT Chat or even the Business Owners Group, there is always something being asked and someone providing answers. Most of the time, it is very constructive, but of course we do have some people who speak off topic at times. For the most part it is really great to see the way that the people who have been around the block are extending a helping hand and giving solid advice to those who need it. The more solid and seasoned the advice, the more we can reach out to our fellow professionals and the better it will be for all of us, including Field Nation. If you shine, Field Nation shines and it becomes a win-win situation!

With that being said, how about reaching out and lending your expertise to those less experienced than you? Guidance on the way we message the service buyer, to the counter offer and understanding the work orders will allow us to work together congruently. Do you know how or where certain certifications can be obtained? Can you provide advice to fellow service providers as far as gaps in their skills? How about fields like fiber optics and cable certification? The list goes on and on, as you well know. Personally, I began my career by repairing keypunch machines back in the 1970’s. After 27 years in the field shagging calls, I can tell you I saw a lot of change and am still amazed at how things are developing in this industry to this day. I have shared many a story, many pieces of advice and warned many to steer clear of this or that when warranted. I have always enjoyed helping others and so should you. This is why you do what you do – you like to help people!

Let’s work together and make a concerted effort to pass on the vast pool of knowledge we have garnered over the years and support mentorship across the board. It will make you feel good and it will turn Field Nation into a place where likeminded individuals assist each other on the path towards success.

As always, I want to give everyone a gentle reminder once again to get a background check!  More buyers are looking for them every day and it will only bring you more work. Reviewing your profile and enhancing it with a professional picture and complete “About” section will sell your services to the buyer and help them see that you are the one they want doing their work!

That’s it for this month friends.  Feel free to send me an email or phone call if you want to join my group “Director’s Corner” in Field Nation! Happy 4th of July. God Bless America!
